Marco Leite, former assistant to Jorge Costa, once again remembers his friend and former colleague during the celebrations of Maritimo’s title in the Second League.

Marco Leite, current assistant coach of Maritimo, remembered and paid tribute to Jorge Costa during the celebrations of the Madeiran team’s Second League championship title on Friday afternoon.

Jorge Costa’s former assistant stressed that the title with Marítimo is, in his case, for the club, but also for his friend, who passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 53, when he was the director of professional football at FC Porto. And he hopes that, on Saturday, the blue and whites can also be champions.

Yes, it’s for him. It’s for the Marítimo fans, but in my special case, it’s for him. He deserves this tribute. He deserves it. Today I was a champion and tomorrow, my heart will also be a champion, for him. That’s what I hope,” said Marco Leite, in statements to SportTV.

Marco Leite, who had already paid tribute to Jorge Costa on Sunday when Marítimo achieved promotion , worked with Jorge Costa for almost a decade and a half, from 2010/11 to 2023/24, at Academica, Cluj and Gaz Metan (Romania), AEL Limassol and Anorthosis (Cyprus), Pacos de Ferreira, the Gabon national team, CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), Tours (France), Mumbai City (India), Farense, Academico de Viseu and AVS.
