Rui Borges gave a press conference this Saturday ahead of the match against Rio Ave for the 16th round of the Portuguese League. The Sporting coach revealed that Maxi Araújo is “ill” and that Hjulmand will play despite being on the verge of accumulating yellow cards.
Maxi is doubtful, he’s ill. Regarding Debast and Daniel Bragança, they are in the process of reaching their best level. Debast is not yet with the group. Dani is in his normal process of reaching his best physical condition and confidence. It’s not for now.
Hjulmand will play. There’s no need to manage the team. The most important game is the next one. Last year I did this once and it almost backfired. It served as an example for me. It was in the game against Gil Vicente, and Morten was there too. I had to put him in to give the team peace of mind. When I’m out, it’s fine. They all say yes when they’re called upon. As a coach, that puts me at ease.
