Former Real Madrid coach resumes activity in England.

Xabi Alonso is the new Chelsea manager, the London club officially announced on Sunday morning.

As the English press reported on Saturday , the 44-year-old Spanish coach is the man chosen to lead the Blues next season, starting his duties on July 1st.

The former Real Madrid coach – who had been without a club since January of this year – has signed a four-year contract with the London club.

This will be Alonso’s first experience in England as a coach. During his playing career, he spent five seasons in the UK, between 2004 and 2009, playing for Liverpool. He also wore the colors of Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich while playing.

His coaching journey began in 2018, initially with Real Madrid’s under-15 team. This was followed by three seasons in charge of Real Sociedad B, before he moved to Bayer Leverkusen. It was with the German side that he shone – delivering the club’s first ever title in his second season.

He then moved to Real Madrid at the end of last season. This year, with Los Blancos, he recorded 20 wins, five losses and three draws in 28 games.

Now, at Chelsea = which may well end up not qualifying for European competitions =he will coach three Portuguese players: Pedro Neto, Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda.
