Saints defeated Middlesbrough and will now compete for the final promotion spot to the Premier League.

With a 2-1 victory in extra time against Middlesbrough, Southampton secured their place in the Championship play=off final.

In the first leg at Boro’s home ground, the two teams drew 0-0. Tonight, however, just five minutes in, the visitors took the lead through Riley McGree.

Right at the end of the first half, Ross Stewart (45+1m) scored the equalizing goal.

After a draw at the end of regulation time, the game went into overtime, and Shea Charles completed the comeback in the 116th minute.

Southampton, who were relegated to the Championship last season, will face Hull City, who eliminated Millwall in the other playoff semi=final.

The decisive match is scheduled for May 23rd at Wembley. Ipswich Town and Coventry, it should be remembered, secured direct promotion to the top tier of English football.
