Sporting were ruthless in their visit to Torreense. Sp. Braga were surprised.
In the opening match of the Liga playoffs quarter=finals, Sporting thrashed Torreense 5-0 away from home. On Saturday, still energized after winning the Champions League, Diogo Santos opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
In a one-sided encounter, Bruno Pinto doubled the lead in the 12th minute, while Tomás Paçó sealed the victory in the 29th minute. Alex Merlim made it 4-0 in the 31st minute, and Bruno Pinto scored his second goal in the 40th minute. It’s worth noting that Alex Merlim was involved in four goals.
In a best=of=three series, Sporting is one win away from reaching the semi=finals of the championship. The match against Torreense is scheduled for 9:15 PM on Wednesday.
Also on Saturday, Ferreira do Zezere achieved their first upset, winning at home against Sp. Braga (3-3, 4-3 after penalties). The match in Minho is scheduled for Wednesday (7pm).
