Hungary has a new national champion. In a championship decided until the last matchday, Gyori Eto retained the title after 13 years = ending Ferencvaros’ run of seven consecutive championships.
A narrow victory away to Kisvarda (1-0) secured the club’s fourth Hungarian league title = the last one was won in the 2012/13 season. In the other match that could have crowned the champion, Ferencvaros beat Zalaegerszeg (3-0), which includes Portuguese player Nuno Campos.
With these results, Gyori ETO finished first with 69 points = one point ahead of second=placed Ferencváros. Zalaegerszeg, coached by the Portuguese manager, finished fifth with 48 points = five points away from the European places.
