Scottish player attributes drop in performance to injuries in the squad.
In reaction to the home defeat against Estoril in the last game of the championship (3-1), Ian Cathro once again hinted that his time at Estoril could end in the summer, after two years at the club.
Game analysis
The assessment of the game is obvious, basic. The game was far from successful. We had bad luck here and there. I look at the last two seasons. My idea was to bring more stability to Estoril. Throughout the seasons I’ve had a lot of suffering, two or three bad moments. As we saw in the six o’clock games, nobody wants to be there. We can talk about other things, but we wanted to bring more stability. My trademark is two consecutive seasons in the top ten. Today’s game was one of great talent and great effort. Congratulations to them for this work. I can be a little demanding, but that’s the assessment. In the end, we’ll see if we put a comma or a full stop in our relationship.
Tactical evolution
Looking at the tactical side, my goal was to change the mentality, to play without fear. We’ve been experimenting and presenting various ways of playing. Looking back, we can’t change so much. We’ll need to find a different balance. We’ve only played 33 games and had a friendly match during the FIFA international break; I hope that next season we’ll play 34 games under normal conditions.
Injuries in defense
We can look at other things, but we spent two months with all our central defenders injured. It’s not about winning the title because it’s Estoril, you’re here because you’re waiting for your Uber. I felt bad asking some players to stay on the field. At one point I thought: ‘How are we going to play our games?’. I’m impressed by the players’ attitude.
