FC Porto was fined €10,200 for the controversy involving the ball boys during the match against Sporting. The decision was made by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
On February 9th, in the 21st round of the League, FC Porto and Sporting drew 1-1 . In the final minutes of that match, some of the balls that should have been near the sidelines were removed by the ball boys.
A day after the match, Sporting announced that it would file a complaint with the FPF’s Disciplinary Committee. The committee’s decision was to condemn Porto’s SAD (Sporting SAD) for violating the rules relating to the multiball system”. The Disciplinary Committee also refers to the Principle of Sports Ethics, stating that the case damages the image of the competition.
Marco Andre Gonçalves Paiva, FC Porto’s field director, was fined 1,530 euros for “violating the duties stipulated in the LPFP’s competition regulations.
In the same game, it should be recalled, Sporting also criticized the manipulated air conditioning, stands conditioned with banners and loudspeakers, and ball boys handcuffed to hide the game balls and remove the towels from Sporting’s goalkeeper, Rui Silva.
