The world and European champion had already scored the title=winning goal for the juniors last Saturday and stood out again. Goncalo Sousa opened the scoring.

FC Porto ‘s B team hosted and defeated Benfica B 2-0 at Olival on Friday afternoon, in the 34th and final round of the Second League.

The team coached by Joao Brandao managed to achieve victory with goals in the second half, scored by Gonçalo Sousa and Duarte Cunha.

In the 51st minute, after a play down the right flank where Luís Gomes launched Mateus Mide for a low cross, Gonçalo Sousa finished in the box for 1-0. This was his sixth goal in 30 games for the B team in the 2025/26 season. It’s worth remembering that the number 49 already made his debut for the first team in the 2023/24 season, in FC Porto’s 3-0 victory in Chaves on May 4, 2024, with Sergio Conceição as coach.

In the 79th minute, having just entered the game four minutes earlier, FC Porto made it 2-0, with the under-17 world and European champion, Duarte Cunha, scoring with a right=footed shot in the area, following a corner from Tiago Silva on the right side of the attack. The number 57 for the Dragons had already been a hero last Saturday, scoring the winning goal for the juniors against Famalicao (3-2), which confirmed FC Porto’s under-19 national title . This was his second goal for the B team in 12 games this season.

The game was also marked by the injury to Benfica’s Gonçalo Oliveira, apparently to his left foot/ankle, in an isolated incident in the 57th minute. This injury drew the attention not only of Benfica’s medical team but also of FC Porto’s players, who immediately recognized the potential seriousness of the injury, which is yet to be confirmed. What is certain is that the player left the field on a stretcher after receiving treatment on the substitutes’ bench. Also noteworthy for FC Porto B was the debut of goalkeeper Gonçalo Silva for the reserve team.

With this result, FC Porto B now has 51 points (33 of them in the second half of the season), provisionally surpassing União de Leiria (49 points) and equaling Vizela, fourth with 51, also provisionally. It remains to be seen in what position they will finish the championship: fifth or sixth. They also close the Second League with three consecutive victories, their best run, equaling what they achieved between matchdays 19 and 21.

Benfica B, coached by Nélson Veríssimo, finished with 44 points and currently occupies ninth place, at the mercy of several other teams.
