The 40-year-old goalkeeper is heading to his sixth and final World Cup and shares the record with Ronaldo and Messi.

Guillermo Ochoa announced that he will be making his final appearance in the World Cup and possibly his last matches for the Mexican national team.

In a post shared on social media, the 40-year-old Mexican goalkeeper writes, in a farewell tone, about his passion for wearing the national team jersey.

Wearing this jersey again was never routine… it was a privilege. Today begins my last training camp. But this time I see it differently. With a fuller heart, with more scars, more memories… and the same ambition as that boy who one day dreamed of defending this badge,” Ochoa wrote.

“Perhaps football measures the years. But passion has never learned to count time. I am at home. I am with my national team. And as long as there is an opportunity to fight for this country… my soul will be there first. Onwards to the 2026 World Cup, added the goalkeeper who played in the Portuguese League last season for AVS.

By participating in this year’s World Cup, Guillermo Ochoa will add his sixth appearance in the final stages of World Cups and enter history as one of the players with the most appearances in final stages (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026). This record could also be achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, should they confirm their participation in this year’s World Cup.
