Ivan Baptista, Benfica’s coach, doesn’t hide his pride in the women’s title and aims for the double.
Ivan Baptista, coach of Benfica’s women’s team, in statements after the 3-1 victory away to Sporting Braga , which confirmed the sixth consecutive championship:
Pride in the achievement
It’s still difficult to express all the emotions I have, but perhaps I can summarize it in the word pride, because it’s not always easy to be exposed, as this working group has been. Winning isn’t easy, and winning six times is unimaginable. As our president (Rui Costa) says, being champions with Benfica is the greatest pride we have. Objective achieved and we leave proud of what we did.
Derby against Sporting at Estadio da Luz, in the next round.
The objective is always to win, we haven’t suffered any defeats, and that’s important for us, and we want to increase our advantage over our opponent. It will be special to play at the Estádio da Luz, where we’ve already played three times this year, always with great support from the fans, just like today here in Braga.
Injuries throughout the season
I am increasingly convinced that, regardless of who is in this coaching position, this team is prepared to win because it has a group of players who live and breathe victory and the most professional staff I have ever seen.
Cup final against FC Porto
The objective we set for this season was to win all four domestic trophies; we didn’t win two, but anyone at this club knows that, as well as having a good campaign in the Champions League. A double is not easy to achieve; we’ve only done it once.
