Unionists miss opportunity to get closer to the promotion places.

During matchday 31 of the II Liga, Felgueiras hosted and defeated União de Leiria 2-1 . With this defeat, União de Leiria’s streak of five games without a loss comes to an end. The home team, in turn, extended their unbeaten run to four games.

The visiting team started the match better and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute with a goal from Jair da Silva. Felgueiras reacted to the goal conceded, and Lucas Duarte restored parity with a goal in the 40th minute, taking the score to 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, the game smiled on the home team, who completed the comeback in the 76th minute with a goal from Mario Rivas, sealing the final score at 2-1. The Spanish striker scored his ninth goal and became Felgueiras’ top scorer of the season.

Until the final whistle from referee Claudio Pereira, Uniao de Leiria still tried to reduce the deficit through Marcelo, but his goal was disallowed, thus confirming the defeat for the Unionists in their visit to Felgueiras.

With this defeat, Uniao de Leiria missed an opportunity to get closer to the promotion places in the Liga, after Academico de Viseu drew away to Farense (0-0) in Faro.  With this home win, Felgueiras is closer to securing its place in the Second League, currently sitting in 11th place, five points away from the relegation play=off zone to League 3, a position occupied by Penafiel, who still have a game to play this round against FC Porto B.
