PSG: Liverpool dream of poaching Luis Enrique!

While waiting to see if Arne Slot can turn things around, Liverpool are starting to consider their future without the Dutchman. And with Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique.

Arne Slot is still there, but for how much longer? With nine defeats in the last twelve matches, the Liverpool manager finds himself on the hot seat. On Thursday, the day after a heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven (1-4) in the Champions League, the Dutch manager was confirmed in his position by the club’s board during a meeting. However, he remains under pressure, needing to win the upcoming matches to save his job.

A Klopp comeback? Liverpool’s management wants to believe in a turnaround. However, faced with the worrying situation, the board is starting to look for a potential replacement for their manager. And the first lead points to Jürgen Klopp, a manager who left in 2024 after nine years at the helm of the Reds. According to The Sun, Liverpool could ask the German manager to return to Anfield should Slot leave. The 58-year-old, now Red Bull’s director of global football, would be offered a short-term contract of around six months to help the club until the end of the season.

Liverpool dream of Luis Enrique, but… Looking ahead, the owners have a very (perhaps too) ambitious idea in mind. Indeed, according to the British tabloid, Luis Enrique’s name is being mentioned in the upper echelons of the club. With his excellent work at Paris Saint-Germain, where he led them to their first-ever Champions League title, the Spaniard is undoubtedly an attractive prospect. However, it’s hard to imagine the former Spain manager leaving PSG at the end of this season. The Gijon native is under contract until June 2027 and feels very comfortable in the French capital, where his work is appreciated by everyone. It will likely remain just a dream for the reigning English champions.
