In a dramatic comeback, Benfica defeated Vitória de Guimarães 2-1 in the second round of the Women’s League Cup group stage. On Sunday afternoon in Seixal, midfielder Maria Baleia opened the scoring in the first minute. Benfica responded in the 24th minute when defender Marit Lund equalized.
In the second half, forward Martín=Prieto completed the comeback in the 58th minute. Thus, Benfica leads Group A with 6 points, tied with Valadares Gaia. Vitória follows with 3 points, as well as Marítimo and Sp. Braga, tied with one point. Also on Sunday, Braga drew 2-2 away to Madeira.
In Group B, Sporting and Torreense drew 1-1 in Alcochete. The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from forward Seelenfreund. In the second half, forward Telma Encarnação equalized in the 78th minute.
This outcome leaves Rio Ave and Torreense tied for the lead with 5 points each, having played one more game, and holding a two=point advantage over Racing Power (3rd). Sporting is fourth with two points (two draws), while Damaiense is last with no points.
