João Moutinho, the experienced midfielder for Sp. Braga, reacted to the defeat in Germany at Freiburg (3-1) by missing the Europa League final.
Of course, the sending-off limited us, but we played a great game. With one less player, we tried to play our game. We created opportunities to score more than one goal. Two or three. It became much more difficult with the sending-off. But we have to congratulate the team for their effort. We have to congratulate Freiburg. We have to be proud.
“After the sending-off, we had to double our efforts. We compensated for each other to make it seem like we had more players. That’s what we did, we created opportunities, but we didn’t score. We want to continue with the same work.”
We can’t just dwell on that. Zalazar took responsibility [for the penalty in the first leg] as anyone else would have. We’re proud of what we did. We showed that we could have reached the final.
