Fifth consecutive championship win and a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Palmeiras won 2-1 away to Bahia on Sunday night (early Monday morning in Portugal), in a match where a stunning goal by Jhon Arias and an own goal were decisive for the fifth consecutive victory for Abel Ferreira’s team in the Brasileirão, on matchday 10 .

The first goal of the game was scored in the 41st minute, with Jhon Arias, on the left side of the attack, passing the ball forward to Flaco López in the area, who then backheeled it for a well-placed shot from the Colombian, resulting in a fantastic goal.

Bahia managed to improve their game in the second half, and David Duarte headed in a cross from Éverton Ribeiro to make it 1-1 in the 57th minute. Even before conceding the equalizer, Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira was already preparing substitutions, bringing on Lucas Evangelista, Luighi, and Ramón Sosa, and later adding Felipe Anderson and Khellven.

And the winning goal for “Verdão” finally came, when it was hardly expected, with an own goal by Santiago Mingo in the 88th minute, following a corner from the left side.

With this result, Palmeiras reinforces its lead, having 25 points, five more than São Paulo and Fluminense, both with 20. Flamengo and Bahia, fourth and fifth respectively, both have 17 points and one game less. “Verdão” (Palmeiras), which achieved its fifth consecutive victory in the competition (always by the narrowest of margins), had entered the matchday with a three-point advantage at the top, taking full advantage of Fluminense’s draw.
