Seven people were injured when they were hit by a car while celebrating FC Porto’s victory in the national football championship in S. João da Madeira, Aveiro district, according to a police source.

A source from the PSP (Portuguese Public Security Police) told the Lusa news agency that none of the injured have serious injuries. According to the source, there was a collision between two vehicles, and one of them crashed into the fans, who were celebrating FC Porto’s 31st national football championship win.

According to Civil Protection, there are 32 personnel with 14 vehicles on site.

A source from the São João da Madeira Volunteer Fire Department told Lusa that “a vehicle accident subsequently caused a pedestrian to be run over” during the celebrations of FC Porto’s 31st Portuguese championship win in the town center. 

The accident resulted in at least seven injuries, with the alert being raised at 10:52 PM, and response from fire departments in Sao Joao da Madeira, Arrifana, and Fajoes, as well as INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency).

FC Porto were crowned Portuguese football champions today for the 31st time in their history, after a 1-0 victory against Alverca in a match of the 32nd round of the League, decided by a goal from Bednarek in the 41st minute.

Porto, coached by Italian Francesco Farioli, now have 85 points, nine more than second=placed Benfica, and 12 more than third=placed Sporting, who have played one game less, with two rounds remaining.

Benfica, national champions on 38 occasions, remain the club with the most trophies, followed by FC Porto, now with 31 national titles, and Sporting, with 21.
