FC PORTO CHAMPIONS: 30 players with the championship sas….

0

Diogo Costa is champion for the third time, was the player with the most minutes played and, along with Froholdt, played the most games. One by one, the numbers of the champions, with some interesting facts.

FC Porto ‘s 2025/26 national championship title involved 30 footballers, including 25 new champions in the Portuguese League, one three=time champion (Diogo Costa), and four two=time champions: Pepe, Zaidu, Claudio Ramos, and Stephen Eustaquio (who was loaned to Los Angeles FC in February until the end of the season, with an option to buy).

And it was precisely the three-time champion Diogo Costa who was the player with the most minutes of playing time under coach Francesco Farioli in the championship, being so far, along with Victor Froholdt, the only one to have participated in all 32 rounds played.

From the most used to the least used, there are several curious cases. For example, there are two champions with less than ten minutes of playing time. André Miranda, a young player from the B team who has already been integrated into the main team, played six minutes (excluding stoppage time in the minutes statistics) in FC Porto’s 3-1 victory against Arouca, in a game where he entered with the score still at 1-1. Yann Karamoh, who arrived in mid-September as a free agent, played seven minutes in the 2-1 victory in Moreira de Conegos, in the ninth round. He gradually ceased to be considered for Farioli’s options.

There are also the cases of players who are no longer part of the blue and white squad, but who were part of this triumphant journey. These are three of the 30 champions. In addition to the aforementioned Stephen Eustaquio, Zé Pedro was permanently transferred to Cagliari at the end of the summer transfer window, and Ángel Alarcón (56 minutes in three games) was loaned to Utrecht mid-season. It’s worth noting that Zé Pedro even played one game for the first team in the season of their last title (2021/22), but that game was in the League Cup. He now has, finally and forever = even though he is no longer contractually part of the club = the national championship title on his resume, thanks to his 29-minute contribution in the victories against Gil Vicente and Casa Pia in August.

Among the less frequently used players, a curious note concerns one of the four two-time champions with FC Porto. Claudio Ramos was called into action in the second half of the 2-0 victory against AVS, in the 16th round, after Diogo Costa complained of physical problems.

A special mention goes to Samu, who, despite being injured in early February, is FC Porto’s top scorer in the league this season with 13 goals. And speaking of injuries and goals… let’s not forget Luuk de Jong, who probably scored one of the most important goals with his only league goal. It came in the 2-1 victory at Alvalade, in the fourth round.
