FC Porto announced on Wednesday the death of José Carlos Esteves, former doctor of the club and the National Team.

José Carlos Esteves spent almost three decades at FC Porto, and the club, in a statement, recalls that he was even awarded a Golden Dragon for Career Achievement in 2020.

He will forever be linked to the history and achievements of FC Porto. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” the club wrote on social media.

Prior to that, José Carlos Esteves had a stint at the Federation, from which he left along with the then-coach António Oliveira to go to FC Porto. He was the team doctor, for example, at Euro 96.

The funeral services begin this Wednesday at the Carvalhido Church in Porto, between 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM. The wake continues on Thursday, starting at 11:00 AM, with the funeral scheduled for 3:15 PM at the same church
