The match between the first and third=placed teams had a very exciting ending.

The match between Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets, for the 25th round of the Australian League, promised to be exciting. Even if only because we were talking about third place against first place.

However, the decisive moment of the game occurred in the final moments and we can say that it had little to do with… football.

At AAMI Park in Melbourne, the lawn was invaded by dozens of seagulls. But we’ll get to that later.

To begin with, the game ended in a draw (2-2) and featured a Portuguese player. Roderick Miranda, formerly of Benfica, started for Melbourne Victory, who are third in the standings, as they hosted league leaders Newcastle Jets.

For the Portuguese defender’s team, Japanese player Charles Nduka scored twice in just three minutes (31st and 34th minutes). On the Jets’ side, it was Australian Eli Adams who scored twice (19th and 89th minutes).

With this result (2-2), Melbourne remains in third place with 37 points = eight behind the leader Jets.

The main event arrived in stoppage time. It was the 92nd minute when dozens of seagulls invaded the stadium. Two Jets players were preparing to take a free kick… completely surrounded by the invaders .

The game continued, but under very unusual circumstances.
