Decisions on Monday:what’s at stake in matchday 33 of the League

From second to fifth place, there are still calculations to be made, as well as for the four clubs fighting to avoid relegation.

Matchday 33 of the Portuguese League begins with two games on Sunday, but the decisive matches are reserved for the seven games scheduled for 8:15 pm on Monday, which involve clubs still vying for their respective objectives.

With FC Porto already crowned champions and AVS relegated, the penultimate round of the League could decide second, third, fourth and fifth place, with the latter potentially granting access to European competitions if Sporting wins the Portuguese Cup against Torreense.

Further down the standings, there are crucial matches for four teams battling to avoid relegation: Nacional, Estrela da Amadora, Casa Pia, and Tondela.

Matchday 33 games:
AVS=FC Porto (Sunday, 6:00 PM)
Alverca=Estoril (Sunday, 8:30 PM)
Tondela=Moreirense (Monday, 8:15 PM)
Estrela=Famalicao (Monday, 8:15 PM)
Rio Ave=Sporting (Monday, 8:15 PM)
Santa Clara=Nacional (Monday, 8:15 PM)
Benfica=Sp. Braga (Monday, 8:15 PM)
V. Guimaraes=Casa Pia (Monday, 8:15 PM)
Gil Vicente=Arouca (Monday, 8:15 PM)

Benfica secures second place (and consequently Sporting’s third place is confirmed):
= If and only if Benfica wins and Sporting loses (Benfica has the advantage in head=to=head matches).

Sp. Braga secures fourth place
= If they get points (they have an advantage in the head-to-head record against Famalicao)
= If they lose and Famalicao doesn’t win

Famalicao’s fifth place is confirmed
= If they win, Sp. Braga gets points, and Gil Vicente doesn’t win (Famalicao loses to Sp. Braga and Gil Vicente in head-to-head matches).
NOTE: They can still go into the final matchday with a chance of reaching fourth place if and only if they win and Sp. Braga loses.

Nacional guarantees its permanence
= If it scores points
= If it loses and one of these scenarios occurs:
1. Casa Pia does not win, regardless of the results of Estrela and Tondela
2. Estrela loses, regardless of the results of Casa Pia and Tondela.
NOTE: Nacional, in the various direct confrontations or in mini-championships of three with Estrela, Casa Pia and Tondela, in case of ties at 32 or 31 points, always comes out on top. It should also be noted, in this sense, that Tondela will never be able to surpass Nacional in the standings, precisely because of the direct confrontations.

Estrela guarantees its stay in the league
= If it wins and Casa Pia and Tondela don’t win
= If it draws, Casa Pia loses and Tondela loses.
NOTE: Estrela has an advantage in the head=to=head record against Casa Pia, but a disadvantage against Tondela. In a three-team mini-league, Estrela wins with seven points and 9-5 in goals, followed by Tondela with seven points and 4-2 in goals, and Casa Pia with three points and 5-11 in goals.

Casa Pia is guaranteed at least a play=off spot
= if they win and Tondela loses (they are tied on head=to=head record).

Tondela will be relegated to the Second Division
if they lose, Casa Pia wins, and Estrela scores points.
