Chelsea’s poor results continue, and on Tuesday night they suffered their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat, losing 3-0 away to Brighton in the opening match of the 34th round of the Premier League.
To give a concrete idea of the Blues poor form, the team coached by Liam Rosenior, in addition to five consecutive defeats in the league, failed to score a single goal in those five games, equaling something that hadn’t happened to the club in the English league for 114 years! The last time they lost five consecutive matches without scoring was in 1912.
Before this defeat against Brighton, Chelsea began this negative run by losing at home to Newcastle 1-0, away to Everton 3-0, the same scoreline as their home defeat against Manchester City. Then, they lost again at home, to Manchester United, 1-0. Zero points out of a possible 15, a goal difference of 0-11! Unimaginable for a team fighting for Champions League qualification. For the world club champions.
To accentuate the negative record, at the Amex Stadium, the goals by Ferdi Kadioglu (3m), Jack Hinshelwood (56m) and Danny Welbeck (90+1m) = with the latter celebrating the goal in the style of Cristiano Ronaldo – told the story of a game that saw the Portuguese Pedro Neto in the starting lineup for Chelsea and Dario Essugo as a substitute.
The victory allows Fabian Hurzeler’s team to climb to sixth place, now with 50 points. They overtake Chelsea, who drop to seventh, remain on 48 points, and are at the mercy of Brentford (48 points), Bournemouth (48), Everton (47), and Sunderland (46), and could still be equaled by Fulham, who have 45.
It was Chelsea’s seventh defeat in their last eight official matches. In between, they thrashed modest Port Vale 7-0 in the FA Cup.
