Cruzeiro worsens Gremio’s crisis. Botafogo wins by a large margin and Vasco, coached by Nuno Moreira, beats Sao Paulo, with Cedric.
Cruzeiro, managed by Artur Jorge, left the relegation zone after winning at home against Grêmio ( 2-0 ), managed by Luís Castro, in the early hours of this morning, in a match of the 12th round of the Brasileirao .
Despite dominating the first half, The Foxes only managed to take the lead in the second half. Christian opened the scoring in the 51st minute and Lucas Romero scored the second in the 66th.
Now with 13 points, Cruzeiro climbed to 16th place, taking advantage of Corinthians’ draw with Vitoria . Gremio, who haven’t won in the Brasileirão for five games and haven’t even won away from home, also have 13 points but occupy 14th place.
Also last night, Botafogo, managed by Franclim Carvalho, thrashed Chapecoense 4-1 away. This was the Portuguese coach’s first victory in the Brasileirão, and he is still undefeated since taking over the Rio de Janeiro team.
With two goals from Edenílson (10 and 20 minutes) and one from Matheus Martins (20 minutes), Botafogo practically settled the game in the first half. Just before halftime, Marcinho (45+3 minutes) reduced the deficit for the home team.
In the second half, with the pace much slower, Matheus Martins scored his second goal in the 80th minute.
Botafogo has provisionally moved up to seventh place with 16 points, while Chapecoense is second to last with eight points and could even drop to last place in this round.
Also in last night’s games, Sao Paulo, with Cedric in the starting lineup, lost 2-1 at Sao Januario against Vasco da Gama, who had Nuno Moreira as an unused substitute.
