Read the letter in its entirety:

Cityzens,

When I arrived nine years ago, I was following a boy’s dream, wanting to succeed in life, wanting to achieve great things. This city and this club have given me much more than that, much more than I ever expected. What we won and achieved together is a legacy that will forever be cherished in my heart. The centurions (one hundred points in a season) the domestic poker, the tremble, the four=peat and much more… It wasn’t so bad after all.

In a few months, the time will come to say goodbye to the city where we not only achieved so much in football, but also where I started my marriage and my family. From the bottom of my heart, Inês and Carlota, thank you so much!

To the fans, your unconditional support over the years is something I will never forget. My main goal as a player was always to play with passion so that you would feel proud and well represented on the pitch. I hope you felt that in every match. I arrived as a Manchester City player and I leave as one of you, a Manchester City fan for life. Continue to support this young team and I am sure it will bring you many new and fantastic memories in the future.

To the club, to Pep, to the coaching staff and to all my teammates over these nine years, thank you for all the memories and for allowing me to be part of this journey for so long. The atmosphere we created every day at the Training Centre made me feel at home and part of a big family. Let’s enjoy these last few weeks together and fight for everything this season still has in store for us.

I love you all.

Bernardo.
