In the final round of the Italian championship, Lecce avoided relegation to Serie B. The team from southern Italy secured a home victory against Genoa, winning 1-0 . This condemned Cremonese to relegation a year after their promotion.
Lecce fielded Portuguese players Tiago Gabriel and Danilo Veiga in their starting eleven. Genoa’s Vitinha was suspended due to accumulated yellow cards.
An early goal from Banda gave Lecce a comfortable lead, especially since Cremonese were thrashed by Como ( 4-1 ). Just above them in the standings, in 16th place, was the Genoese team managed by Daniele De Rossi.
In addition to Cremonese, Hellas Verona and Pisa are relegated, a fate that was already decided before the final matchday. The qualification for European competitions was also settled this Sunday.
