Porto bid farewell with a larger sum than they earned last season. Eliminating Freiburg means an additional seven million in the Minho team’s accounts.

Eliminated in the quarter-finals, FC Porto earned €23.612 million from participating in the Europa League. Sporting Braga, which secured a place in the semi-finals, has so far earned €25.568 million.

With the 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest and consequent elimination, Porto missed out on the €4.2 million prize for reaching the semi-finals, an amount that Sporting Braga won by beating Betis 4-2 at La Cartuja, after a draw in the first leg .

Last season, in the first edition with a 36-team league phase, FC Porto earned €16.488 million, having been eliminated by Roma in the Round of 16. Similarly to Porto, Braga have also surpassed their earnings from last season, where they did not exceed €13.437 million.

With direct entry into the league phase, FC Porto pocketed 4.31 million euros, while Sp. Braga added to that base amount an additional 350,000 euros resulting from the preliminary rounds.

In terms of pillar value, associated with the market volume of the respective country and the coefficient of the clubs in the UEFA five= and ten=year ranking for the European and non=European parts, FC Porto earned 9.31 million, compared to 6.797 million for Sp. Braga.

In addition to the initial prize money and the pillar value, both clubs earned performance-based bonuses from the league phase onwards, in which FC Porto and Sporting Braga finished in fifth and sixth places, both securing direct access to the round of 16, with 17 points after five wins, two draws and one loss.

Each victory yielded 450,000 euros, for a total of 2.25 million, and a draw gave 150,000, up to 300,000, with the classification allowing, with the remainder of the draws, bonuses of 2.592 million to Porto – 32 installments multiplied by 81,000 euros = and 2.511 million to Braga – 31 by 81,000.

Since there were 25 ties in this phase, resulting in a surplus of 3.75 million euros, each place became worth 81,000 euros more than the immediately lower position, instead of the 75,000 euros initially set by UEFA.

FC Porto and Sporting Braga also pocketed €600,000 for finishing in the top 8 and €1.75 million for automatically qualifying for the Round of 16.

In the round of 16, the blue and whites beat the German side Stuttgart twice (2-1 away and 2-0 at home), while Arsenal started by losing to Ferencvaros (2-0), but reversed the tie when they beat the Hungarians (4-0), securing a bonus of 2.5 million for reaching the quarter=finals.

FC Porto bids farewell with €23.612 million, less than Betis, eliminated by Sp. Braga, who earned €23.658 million.

As for the semi-finalists, in addition to Sporting Braga, with €25.568 million, Aston Villa has so far earned €28.003 million and Nottingham Forest has pocketed €24.086 million, while Freiburg has €25.627 million in its account.

If Sporting Braga eliminates Freiburg in the semi-finals, they could add another seven million euros to their total prize money.
