Strata open for triumph

Goals from Samu and Strata, both well-timed, secured three points for Vitoria de Guimarães in their home game against Rio Ave (2-0). Five months later, the Guimaraes side have won two consecutive league games, overtaking Moreirense in the standings.

The Vila do Conde team had favorable winds away from home, having won their last three games away from Arcos, but in Guimarães they couldn’t continue that run. Well=organized, Sylaidopoulos’ team managed to withstand the opponent’s momentum, only to succumb in the second half.

With little at stake for either side, and both teams lacking tangible objectives, Vitória and Rio Ave faced off at the D. Afonso Henriques stadium in a match that, for long stretches, was lackluster and uneventful. Occasional bursts of excitement provided some sparkle to the game.

The home team, Vitoria, tried to take control of the game, but without losing their composure. Rio Ave aimed to be an organized team, looking for counter-attack opportunities. Given this scenario, Gil Lameiras’ side had more possession and more initiative, but lacked the ability to find the back of the net.

In the moments when Vitória managed to accelerate their play and reach scoring positions, Miszta was there to make the difference. Just before halftime, the Polish goalkeeper made a great save, denying Samu a goal. A powerful shot from the Vitória captain was parried by Miszta in what was the key moment of the first half.

Charles holds out until Strata arrives to revolutionize.

In the second half, the Vila do Conde team reorganized, maintained defensive consistency, and appeared more often in attack, putting pressure on the opposing defense. Charles was instrumental in keeping Vitoria in the game, with three decisive interventions that kept the Guimarães team alive.

With several new faces on the pitch after the substitutions, Vitoria managed to find the net. The first goal came in the 72nd minute; a cross from Strata on the right, one of the players who came off the bench after good work, found Arcanjo, another player who entered the game, who set up the ball at the far post. Gustavo tried to shoot, but it was Samu who finished opportunely.

In stoppage time, with Rio Ave trying to salvage a point and Vitória struggling physically, Strata delivered a decisive blow, scoring from outside the box. With space in the central corridor, the right-back unleashed a powerful shot, settling the matter. A deserved victory for Vitória de Guimarães, who secured their second consecutive win before their trip to Alvalade.

THE STAR PLAYER: Strata.
The Romanian full-back was brought on by Gil Lameiras for the last half hour of the game, proving decisive in improving the Guimarães team’s performance. He provided the cross into the box for the first goal, and scored the second himself in stoppage time with a confident shot from outside the area. A luxurious half-hour from the Romanian under-21 international; the full-back revolutionized Vitória’s game.

THE MOMENT: Samu’s goal (72′)
A well-worked move from the right flank, opening up space for Strata to advance. The full-back delivered a good cross into the area, with Samu scoring amidst the confusion. At the far post, Arcanjo made the first touch, setting the ball back; Gustavo attempted a shot, and the ball fell to the Vitoria captain, who opportunely scored with his left foot. This propelled Vitória towards victory.
