Alvaro Pacheco, coach of Casa Pia, states that the team deserved the victory, since Santa Clara “did not have any goal-scoring opportunities”. Regarding the fight to avoid relegation, the coach highlights the team’s attitude.
We deserved it today. It was a game between two teams fighting to avoid relegation. Emotionally, it was going to be very intense. We knew we had to be a very intelligent team strategically. And we were. Santa Clara didn’t have a single goal=scoring opportunity.
We had several clear goal-scoring opportunities, but we lacked the composure and clarity to score. There are two situations we need to address: a foul called by the referee where our player was through on goal. He should let the play finish and then see if it’s a foul or not. To me, it wasn’t a blocking tactic. Then there was a penalty. I haven’t seen the replay yet, but from what I’ve heard… we want to be respected in the same way.
We need to understand the situation we are in and we need to strive for the greatest clarity in our next actions so that we are capable. The team gave a great response today, demonstrating the responsibility we feel at this moment.
