The clubs had reached an agreement for the match to take place on Monday, but the League had a different understanding.

The date of the Vizela-Benfica B match, from the 28th round of the Portuguese Second League, is surrounded by controversy. The Minho club expressed its indignation through a statement this Tuesday.

In this way, Vizela reveals that the two clubs reached an agreement on March 11th to play on April 6th, Easter Monday, and communicated this date to the League.

On March 21st, Vizela adds, “the Competitions Department of Liga Portugal sent the Liga Portugal 2 clubs the summons for the meeting to define the calendar for matchdays 28 to 30, accompanied by an initial draft  in which the game against SL Benfica was scheduled for April 7th, 2026, at 6:00 PM,” on Tuesday, one day later than agreed.

“However, given the unavailability of the other clubs to make changes to the schedule at that time, Liga Portugal decided to schedule the game for April 7, 2026, contradicting not only the understanding previously communicated between the two clubs, but also the commitment made by Liga Portugal itself,” criticizes Vizela.

The date was indeed confirmed, which the club from the Braga district sees as a devaluation of the role of fans in the sporting spectacle,” since Monday would have brought in a larger audience. Furthermore, Vizela also points to “sporting issues,” as their opponent in the 29th round, Feirense, will benefit “from a significantly longer preparation period, with an advantage of more than three days, corresponding to a total difference of 79 hours.
