The suspect is a 31-year-old teacher who has been arrested. The US president maintains that he acted alone and was a potential assassin.
Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, was urgently removed from a correspondents’ dinner in Washington after shots were heard at the hotel where the event was taking place in the early hours of the morning.
In addition to Trump, First Lady Melania was also removed, as were several top figures in the US administration, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. The event was attended by approximately two thousand people, including political figures from both parties and journalists.
Secret Service agents immediately entered the main room, went to the stage where Trump was, and escorted the US president to a private area. Several attendees panicked and sought shelter under the tables.
The suspect is Cole Thomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. This man worked as a tutor at a tutoring center in Los Angeles and allegedly breached the security barrier, but was apprehended seconds later, still outside the main room.
During the shootout, a Secret Service agent was injured, but his life is not in danger.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the motives behind the attack, but say the suspect acted alone.
This is not the first time in recent years that our Republic has been attacked by a would=be assassin seeking to kill, Trump said at a press conference held at the White House. The US president described the shooter as a madman and a person with serious problems, asserting that he acted alone and calling him a lone wolf.
Trump further asserted that the shooter was very far from the room where the dinner was taking place. There was absolutely no chance of him entering the room. The room was cordoned off.
