Benfica’s defense has cemented its place in Jose Mourinho’s starting lineup.

With a new prominence since Jose Mourinho arrived at Benfica (in the last game against Famalicão, for example, he won the starting spot over António Silva), Tomás Araújo could attract interest in the upcoming transfer windows.

His agent, Iranian Ali Barat, gave an interview to journalist Fabrizio Romano in which he discussed the future of the Portuguese defender, among other players in his client portfolio.

I’ve known Tomás since he was 16. It’s great to see his progress. What’s excellent about him is that he has some fundamental attributes: speed and technical ability, he began by saying.

“These are attributes that modern coaches look for, as everyone plays with very high defensive lines. Teams like Barcelona, for example. I am very confident that many top clubs will be looking for Tomás again in the summer,” he affirmed.

Tomas Araujo has been strongly linked to Chelsea in the past. Araújo has a release clause of €80 million and a contract with Benfica until 2029.
