União de Leiria defeated Pacos de Ferreira 2-0 at the Estadio Jose Gomes – Estrela da Amadora’s temporary home ground – in a match counting towards the 27th round of the Second League.
Enjoying a good run of form this season with four wins and one loss in their last five matches, Leiria started the game motivated and in the 22nd minute Juan Muñoz scored the first goal of the match. The Spanish striker didn’t falter from the penalty spot and reached 16 goals this season.
At the start of the second half, União de Leiria continued their offensive pressure, with Michel (50m) extending their lead to 2-0.
Paços de Ferreira, unable to respond, could have conceded a goal near the end of the 90 minutes, were it not for Rafa’s excellent save that prevented a third goal in the match.
With this result, União de Leiria has 44 points and occupies fourth place, one point behind third-placed Torreense . Paços, in turn, remains close to the relegation zone and occupies 14th place with 30 points – one more than the first team below the relegation line.
