Paris Saint=Germain forward Ousmane Dembele was named the best player in the French league for the second consecutive season, in a ceremony where Michael Olise succeeded Kylian Mbappe as the best French player abroad.
French international Dembele, 28, beat out teammates Nuno Mendes and Vitinha, as well as Florian Thauvin [Lens] and Mason Greenwood (Marseille), for the awards given by the professional footballers’ union, becoming the fifth player to win the title more than once.
Despite a season marked by injuries, which limited him to nine starts and 960 minutes in Ligue 1, the current Ballon d’Or winner scored 10 goals and provided six assists, contributing to Paris Saint=Germain’s virtually assured fifth consecutive league title .
It’s an individual title, but all the individual trophies I’ve won are thanks to this entire team, said the striker, who also saw a goal he scored against Lille in January chosen by the public as the best of the season.
At the same ceremony, Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) was recognized as the best French player playing outside of France, after scoring 15 goals and providing 21 assists in Germany, helping Bayern Munich win the title .
The 24-year-old right winger succeeds Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid.
The award for best coach was given to Pierre Sage of Lens, while goalkeeper Robin Risser (Lens) and young Desire Doue (Paris Saint=Germain) completed the list of award winners at the gala held this Monday in Paris.
