A few days after the Benfica-Moreirense match, in the 31st round of the Portuguese League, Dodi Lukebakio apologized on social media for reacting badly to being substituted in that game, at the 57th minute.
José Mourinho made a triple substitution when the score was 2-1 (it ended 4-1 in favor of Benfica) and the Belgian player was sacrificed. He reacted by punching the bench seats, having a heated exchange of words with the coach.
Now, the Belgian claims that this is not something typical of him. I am very demanding of myself and I don’t let my emotions control me because I have high expectations of myself and I always want to show my best version, he explains.
Lukebakio also thanked the fans for their affection and promised to repay them on the pitch. Immediately after the game, Mourinho said that “nothing happened” and that he even enjoyed the exchange. The Belgian has one goal and three assists in 21 games this season.
