A 4-1 victory over Independiente Medellin leaves Flamengo with six points in Group A.
Leonardo Jardim’s Flamengo hosted and thrashed Independiente Medellin 4-1 in the second match of the Copa Libertadores group stage.
In a game dominated by the Brazilian team, the first goal came after just 15 minutes, with Lucas Paqueta putting the ball in the back of the net. The best the Colombians could manage was to reduce the deficit just before halftime through Yony Gonzalez, but there was still time for Bruno Henrique to give Flamengo the lead again before heading to the locker rooms. After a cross from Arrascaeta, the forward headed in to make it 2-1.
The second half started with another goal for Flamengo, but the roles were reversed, this time with Arrascaeta making the best possible response to Bruno Henrique’s pass. Shortly after, Leonardo Jardim’s team had a goal disallowed for offside against Leo Pereira.
With the game under control, the final goal came in stoppage time of the second half, with Pedro making a perfect run and finishing with his left foot for the final score of 4-1. This result leaves Flamengo with six points in Group A, two more than Estudiantes.
