Italian coach praises Danish international after victory over Estoril (3-1)
Francesco Farioli praised Viktor Frohold and thanked Ian Cathro for the compliments he received even before the victory over Estoril (3-1).
Froholdt scored another goal and is linked to Xeka’s own goal. Is he the best player in the league?
He’s a very good player. I think his growth since the beginning of the season has been fantastic. He arrived here very young, with great potential, and integrated very quickly into the team’s dynamics with a top attitude, with a top profile. He has grown in all aspects of the game, both on and off the field. I think what he has been doing, everything he gives to the team, has been above our expectations, which were already high. It’s no coincidence that a club invests 20 million in a 19-year-old, but what he has been doing is remarkable. He’s a very humble guy, and that’s a key factor for the future of his career.
Ian Cathro said that FC Porto isn’t a machine yet, but it will be. Do you agree?
No, I appreciate Ian’s kind words towards us, but in reality we are working to continue developing. If we look at the last few games, we scored goals against strong opponents in different competitions. I think we are on the right track, but I don’t like to make comparisons that have already left their mark on history. We are only at the beginning, we started a process just nine months ago. We are in a building phase and we are where we are because we accelerated the process and because the club invested well in the market, but what interests us now is the near future. In the next three games, we want to take three important steps in three different competitions. We will take one game at a time, that’s the most important thing.
What was the strategy to win this game?
We prepared for the game paying attention to our last match at Dragao and also to Estoril’s recent games, as we always do. We have a large analysis department that is doing a great job, providing us with the best images and selecting things that allow us to prepare for the games. Based on what we saw and the scenarios we tried to anticipate, we tried to find the right solutions. It’s never easy, there’s always little time, but what the analysis department does in just 72 hours in preparing for the game is a good example of dedication in both roles.
