Sporting player Alisson Santos, speaking on Sporting TV’s Flash Interview after the 3-2 victory against Athletic Bilbao in the eighth round of the Champions League group stage.
This shows the strength of our group. We didn’t stop fighting until the last minute. I know we started behind in the game, but we were strong and very resilient to achieve the result. In the end, I was very happy to help the team with the victory, with the three points and with qualification. I’m very happy about that, very happy for the team, for our work and very happy that we managed to qualify.
“Yes, it’s more than a dream come true. Before I even got into sports, when I was announced, in my first interview, I said it would be a dream for me to play in the biggest competition in the world.
It almost seems like a lie, but sometimes I still can’t believe it. It takes a while to sink in, because I watched this from home when I was younger and when I was starting my career. I always aspired to and dreamed of reaching these stages and, today, seeing that I’ve fulfilled this dream, coming into games, making decisions, scoring, helping the team, for me it’s a dream come true. I think my family is very happy and I’m very happy about it too.
“I believe it means a lot. We have a very talented squad and we work very hard every day. We know our capabilities, we know what we are capable of achieving. We are very happy. This shows that our work is being done well. To enter the club’s history with this goal achieved is, for us, an immense feat, and we are very happy about it.
