Afonso Moreira scores in Lyon’s victory against Rennes

Paulo Fonseca’s team climbed to third place, which grants access to the Champions League.

Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon continues its unstoppable run, recording its fourth consecutive victory in the French League. The Portuguese coach’s team initially fell behind against Rennes, but a comeback = with a goal from Afonso Moreira = secured the three points ( 4-2 ).

Early in the match, Lyon found themselves losing. Just six minutes in, Moussa Al-Tamari opened the scoring for Rennes. Roman Yaremchuk, the former Benfica striker, equalized again (37th minute).

Still in the first half, captain Tolisso completed the comeback with a penalty (42m). In the second half, Estéban Lepaul restored the tie in the match (48m).

Shortly after, Afonso Moreira once again found the net to restore Lyon’s lead (3-2). The former Sporting player received the ball in a great position and volleyed it into the goal (52m).

To seal the game, Brazilian Endrick unleashed a powerful shot from inside the penalty area (75m) to make it 4-2.

With this victory, Lyon moves up to third place = which grants access to the Champions League = with 60 points. Rennes, in turn, is fifth, a Europa League spot, with 56 points.

In another game of the day, Felix Correia started in Lille’s draw with Le Havre ( 1-1 ). Tiago Santos, former Estoril defender, was a substitute. Hakon Haraldsson scored for Lille (29th minute) and Issa Soumaré (33rd minute) responded for Le Havre.

With this draw (1-1), Lille drops to fourth place with 58 points. Le Havre, meanwhile, is still fighting to avoid relegation = they are in 14th place with 32 points, four points away from the play-off spots.

Strasbourg lost at home to Toulouse ( 2-1 ). Rafael Luis, formerly of Benfica, started for the home team. Diego Moreira came on as a substitute.

Dayann Methalie (43m) and Emersonn (84m) scored for Toulouse. Sam Amo-Ameyaw (27m) scored for Strasbourg.

Strasbourg remains in eighth place with 46 points = eight points away from the European spots. Toulouse, meanwhile, is tenth with 41 points.

Danny Namaso, formerly of FC Porto, started in Auxerre’s 3-1 victory against Angers. Sekou Mara’s brace (61st and 12th minutes) and Lassine Sinayoko’s goal (67th minute) secured the win. Goduine Koyalipou reduced the deficit for Angers (77th minute).

Auxerre remains in a relegation playoff spot (16th) with 28 points. Angers is 13th with 34 points.
