Former Dutch international Wesley Sneijder was so annoyed by the Arsenal vs. Atlético Madrid match in the second leg of the Champions League semi=final that he considered asking UEFA to stop the game. Never one to mince words, the former Ajax, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan player argues that the final in Budapest should be between the other semi=finalists, PSG and Bayern Munich.
I wanted to call UEFA after 35 minutes to ask them to cancel the game, to tell the players to leave the pitch and to announce Bayern and PSG in the Champions League final. Honestly, this game was terribly boring, the former player said.
Arsenal secured their place in the final with a solitary goal from Bukayo Saka to break the 1-1 draw from the first leg.
Watching Arsenal against Atletico Madrid didn’t feel like a Champions League semi=final. It lacked intensity, creativity, and real quality in the final third of the pitch. In the final, I find it hard to imagine them putting up a fight against a team like PSG or Bayern. Based on what I saw tonight, it will be an easy win for either of them. At this level, you expect drama and top=class football, but we were far from that, Sneijder added.
