FC Porto Champions: 31st title gives them an advantage over thei…

Looking back 20 years, the dominance of Porto is even clearer: as many national league titles as Benfica and Sporting combined.

FC Porto are national champions for the 31st time in their history!

Under the leadership of Francesco Farioli, Porto once again won the Portuguese title, the first under the presidency of Andre Villas=Boas.

After a three-year hiatus, FC Porto broke the cycle of their rivals and prevented what would have been Sporting’s first three-peat since 1952/53.

By winning the 2025/26 League, the blue and whites also gain an advantage over their rivals in the distribution of titles in the last decade: they win their fourth title in the last 10 years (the previous three with Sérgio Conceição), compared to three for Benfica and three for Sporting. If the retrospective is 20 years, the advantage of the Dragons is even greater. In that period, Porto have won 10 titles, the same number as their rivals combined: seven for Benfica and the same three for Sporting.

In terms of historical results, Benfica continues to lead with 38 titles, but FC Porto is closing in with 31. Sporting is further behind with 21. Belenenses and Boavista, each with one trophy, are the only clubs that also have the national championship in their trophy cabinet.

This count, it should be recalled, was confirmed in 2022 by the General Assembly of the Portuguese Football Federation, after Sporting argued that the titles of the defunct Campeonato de Portugal should be considered as corresponding to the status of national champion, which the FPF did not accept.
