Flamengo, managed by Leonardo Jardim, made their debut in the Brazilian Cup with a 2-1 victory against Vitória, in the first leg of the fifth round of the competition.
Flamengo owed themselves a more decisive result, despite having ten shots on target. My experience in football tells me that when we create a number of chances like in these last two games, and we don’t convert them as much as we ‘d like, the future will be promising because there will come a time when the balls will start going in. I’m worried when we don’t create chances, Leonardo Jardim downplayed the situation after the match.
Ten minutes into the game, Evertton Araujo put Flamengo ahead, but Erick equalized a minute later. The game would be decided at the start of the second half when Pedro scored the final goal, making it 2-1.
Meanwhile, Cruzeiro, managed by Artur Jorge, conceded a draw away to Goiás (2-2) in Serie B, conceding a goal in the 90+6 minute, scored by Esli García. Earlier, Keny Arroyo (18th minute) and Jonathan Jesus (76th minute) had turned around an initial deficit for Cruzeiro , thanks to Nicolas’ goal in the 11th minute.
In the remaining games of the last early morning, highlights include Remo, who, with goals from Duplexe Tchamba (ex-Casa Pia) and Alef Manga (ex-Oliveirense), won away at Bahia (3-1), and Coritiba, who had the Portuguese Josue in midfield, drew 0-0 at Vila Belmiro against Santos.
With Ronaldo Tavares in attack, Athletic, from Serie B, lost at home to Internacional (2-1), while Bragantino and Mirassol drew 1-1 and Fortaleza beat CRB 2-1.
