Rui Borges speaks about the possibility of having a tragic week at Sporting.
Sporting coach Rui Borges, speaking at the press conference ahead of the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi=final against FC Porto, commented on the possibility of this being a tragic week for Sporting.
Whose fault is it if we lose everything?
I’m not going to dwell on ‘what ifs’. We’re focused on what we’re still competing for. There’s no champion yet. In the Cup, we’re fighting for a possible place in the final, and we’re focused on that. I’m not one for ‘what ifs,’ I’m one for hard work. We know very well how our work has been, the work of everyone, of the entire Sporting structure, which is well aware of the path. We’re in contention for all the trophies, and that’s the primary objective: to bring honor to a great club, to be in the fight until the end in all competitions.
It could be a week to forget, after already losing the Champions League and potentially being eliminated from the Cup.
“It’s a week for a big team. It’s good that we lost the Champions League; it’s a sign that they look at us with enormous respect. It’s very good, it values our work. It’s very good to hear the question in that way. It’s good to feel that we lost the Champions League. It’s a sign that we could have won it. We are in contention for everything, which is the first major objective of a great club. We have done our best to honor Sporting; the players have had a fabulous season. In the league, we are further behind, but there is still no champion. The first-placed team has had a great season, better than ours, unfortunately. We need to look to the future, to the next game, which will determine who goes to the final of the Portuguese Cup and could determine our presence in the Super Cup. It’s a possible presence in two trophies. The team is super motivated and calm because they know what they have to do.
