Age Hareide, the veteran coach and former Norwegian international, is undergoing treatment for brain cancer. The information was confirmed by his son, Bendik Hareide, in statements to the broadcaster NRK , who revealed that the 72-year-old former national team coach has already undergone radiation and chemotherapy sessions.
According to her son, the first signs of the illness appeared in July, when Hareide began experiencing speech difficulties, leading to tests that confirmed the diagnosis.
Despite the seriousness of his illness, Hareide maintained a close connection to football and even recently travelled to Milan to watch Norway’s victory over Italy ( 4-1 ), a triumph that secured qualification for the Nordic team in the 2026 World Cup.
Hareide represented Norway 50 times as a player, excelling as a central defender. Throughout his career, he also played for clubs such as Manchester City and Norwich. As a coach, he managed Norway, Denmark (leading them to the Round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup), and Iceland.
