Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction on Friday morning, the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital (SUUB), where Lucescu has been hospitalized since Sunday, reported.

“During the morning, the patient suffered an acute myocardial infarction. He was taken to the emergency room and promptly received the necessary medical and therapeutic interventions, in accordance with current protocols. Currently, his condition is stable, under rigorous specialized monitoring,” the hospital said in an official statement. The same source added that Lucescu remains hospitalized in the Cardiology Department, receiving the necessary medical care.

Lucescu, 80, felt unwell at the technical meeting before the Romanian national team’s training session on Sunday and was hospitalized. This morning’s incident comes the day after his resignation as coach of the Romanian national team was made official and on the day that, according to the Romanian press, notably Pro Sport = which released exclusive images this morning before the new serious episode = Lucescu was due to be discharged.
