Jonathan Wheatley is no longer Audi’s sporting director in the Formula 1 World Championship, the German team confirmed this Friday. The Briton thus leaves one of the new teams of 2026 with immediate effect.

Wheatley has extensive experience in Formula 1. He was an engineer at Red Bull, contributing to the Austrian brand’s successes. Less than a year ago, he joined Kick Sauber = now the new Audi = as sporting director. The manager cited personal reasons for leaving the German team. However, the English press reports that the Briton may take up a position at Aston Martin. Meanwhile, Mattia Binotto = who previously led Ferrari = will assume the role of sporting director, although he also holds another position within Audi. After two races = and one sprint = completed, Audi has two points in the constructors’ championship, earned by Brazilian driver Bortoleto at the Australian Grand Prix. They currently occupy eighth position out of 11 teams in the paddock.
