Mattias Grafstorm, FIFA’s Secretary General, assures that the organization will be attentive to the development of the situation.

Mattias Grafstorm, FIFA’s Secretary General, stated to journalists during the International Football Association Board’s general assembly in Wales that the organization will be closely monitoring the situation in Iran, which, it should be noted, was bombed this Saturday by the United States and Israel and is one of the countries qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

“We held the draw for the final phase in Washington, with the participation of all the teams, and our focus is to hold a safe World Cup, with the presence of all the teams,” he began by saying.

Mattias Grafstorm assures that FIFA will continue to communicate with the organizing countries to ensure the security of the event. Regarding the attacks, the Secretary General makes no comment, but stresses that the situation will be monitored.

We will continue to communicate with the three [host] governments, as we always do in any situation. Everyone will be safe. We had a meeting today and it is premature to comment in detail, but we will follow developments surrounding all issues around the world, he concluded.
