Whoever coaches Real Madrid has to be prepared for anything”

The Spanish coach wants to turn around Real Madrid’s poor run of form and says he feels the support of the management and the players.

The atmosphere remains tense at the Bernabéu. Looking ahead to the Real Madrid-Manchester City Champions League match , Xabi Alonso wants to see a response from his team after their recent home defeat against Celta Vigo, but his simple “yes” to the question of whether he feels the support of the squad did little to ease the lingering tension.

With just two wins in the last seven games, Xabi Alonso’s room for maneuver in charge of Real Madrid has shrunk to such an extent that the Spanish press almost guarantees that a bad result against City will spell the end of the line for the Spanish coach.

“Whoever coaches Real Madrid has to be prepared for everything,” notes Xabi Alonso, who expects to see his team “playing with a strong rhythm and intensity” in order to overcome a Manchester City side that “has evolved, has new players, with different dynamics” and will be “a very difficult opponent.”

The defeat against Celta de Vigo (2-0) , in the Spanish League, left Real Madrid in a state of siege, but Xabi Alonso assures that “communication with the management is constant” and responded with a curt “yes” when asked if he has the support of the squad.

“We are a team, we are all united. We want to overcome the current frustration, which is normal. In our minds, only City is on our minds. In football, for better or for worse, everything can change quickly,” added the coach.

Real Madrid, currently fifth in the standings with 12 points, host Manchester City (ninth, with 10 points) on Wednesday (8:00 PM), in a match corresponding to the sixth round of the Champions League group stage.
