Moreirense’s coach addressed the defeat against Benfica again in the lead-up to the 15th round match.

Vasco Botelho da Costa wants to see Moreirense take control of the game against Estrela da Amadora, when they visit Estádio José Gomes this Saturday (8:30 pm), in a match of the 15th round of the League.

Estrela grew stronger with the arrival of coach João Nuno.

“It’s a team that seeks to adapt to the characteristics of the opponent. The atmosphere in Amadora, which I know well, is very strong, very unique. We work focused on what we can do, both offensively and defensively. We want the game to depend heavily on us.

Reaction to the heavy defeat at home against Benfica

Weeks are all difficult when we don’t win, because we want to win. We all live by results. The results that Moreirense achieves define what happens [in the Primeira Liga], but results don’t happen by chance. It’s linked to a process, an idea, something that is more within our control, From the second day [of the week], the focus turned entirely to Estrela da Amadora.

Criticism regarding the performance against Benfica

My biggest critic of what we do will always be myself.  We have to look inward. We haven’t stopped reaching the First Division. These games against the big teams are different because there’s a very significant difference in level. As a coach, I need to go through these experiences to be better. After analyzing [the game against Benfica] on Monday, I would be a better coach.

Vasco Sousa’s serious injury (fracture of the fibula)

“It left the squad feeling sad and upset, but also showing solidarity with a player who needs to rest well during the first phase of recovery, before taking steps towards his return.
