Cup: Farense-Benfica, 0-2 (report)

Statements by Silas, coach of Farense, in a press conference, after the 0-2 defeat against Benfica, in the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup, played this Wednesday, December 17th, in Faro.

What is your initial analysis?

We always left the result open. I think we could have played much better. In truth, we had a lot of young players, there was some anxiety.

The result remained open until the very end, because a 1-0 lead is difficult for the team that’s winning. We managed to be competitive, but we lacked some quality in attack.

There weren’t many chances for Benfica. I don’t consider us to have been easy prey. Naturally, there’s a difference in collective and individual quality, that’s undeniable, but I’ve seen teams from the Primeira Liga lose by more.

[Why did you make this rotation in 11, with eight changes?]

It has to do with the density of games, the recovery from game to game, some ‘touches’ and we needed to keep some players out so that we would have a competitive team on Sunday [against União de Leiria].
