Villarreal beat Atlético Antoniano only in a penalty shootout.
The Round of 32 of the Spanish Cup took place on Wednesday with a strong Portuguese presence. This coincided with Real Madrid’s victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.
Villarreal, with Renato Veiga in the starting lineup, needed penalties to eliminate Atlético Antoniano, from the fourth tier of Spanish football. After a draw (1-1) at the end of extra time, Villarreal won (5-4) on penalties.
Meanwhile, Elche, with Martim Neto and André Silva, also had to work hard to beat another opponent from the Spanish fourth division, Quintanar del Rey. The striker was not called up and the midfielder came on in extra time.
After a draw (1-1) in regulation time, Hector Fort’s goal (117m) gave Elche the victory.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad, with Gonçalo Guedes, visited and defeated Reus, also from the fourth tier. For the home team, the Portuguese Ricardo Vaz was in the starting lineup. Guedes entered the game in the 77th minute. Goti Lopez (59) and Sadiq (90+3m) scored the goals for the Basque victory. Girona, in turn, were defeated by Ourense (2-1), from the Spanish third division. Asprilla (25m) scored for Girona. Yuste (1m) and Ouhdadi (64m) scored the goals for the victory.
Meanwhile, Betis thrashed Torrent (4-1) with a hat-trick from Rodrigo Riquelme, formerly of Atlético Madrid (11th, 43rd and 75th minutes). Ortiz (90th minute) also scored for the Seville team and Corbalan (85th minute) reduced the deficit for Torrent.
